2022 Moto GP Champion Joan to race for Honda in 2023

The Japanese team said on Tuesday that the 2021 MotoGP champion Joan Mir has signed with Honda for 2023 and 2024, where he will compete with fellow Spaniard Marc Marquez.

Due to his current team Suzuki’s decision to leave the MotoGP, the 24-year-old Mir was without a ride for the upcoming season.

From his first full season in Moto3 in 2016, Mir showed himself as a World Champion-level prospect. He won the lightweight class championship in 2017 while riding a Honda, then switched to the intermediate class in 2018. The Spanish racer has two World Championship titles, 12 Grand Prix victories, and 33 podium finishes to his name.

With a two-year deal, the 24-year-old will race with Marc Marquez on the Honda RC213V in the Factory Team.

Marquez, who underwent surgery to treat his broken right arm, has been given the all-clear to step up his training and check on the health of his arm while riding a motorcycle.

Marquez has been given the go-ahead by the medical staff to step up his training, add more weight, and incorporate more diverse exercises into his programme. Additionally, it has been decided that the eight-time World Champion will begin training on motorbikes in order to have a deeper understanding of the state of his right arm.
