2020 Mahindra Alturas G4 specs and features – TAB report

Mahindra Alturas G4 is another choice for buyers of premium SUV in India. This segment has been dominated by Toyota Fortuner for the last decade. The other options include MG Gloster, Ford Endeavour, ISUZU mu-X and Skoda Kodiaq. Talking about the 2020 Mahindra Alturas G4, it is a rebadged version of 2nd generation Ssangyong Rexton. First revealed by Mahindra in Auto Expo 2018.

Alturas G4 is a body-on-frame 7 seat SUV and it is the most expensive car ever sold by Mahindra. With Alturas G4, Mahindra entered the premium segment and provided Indian buyers with an alternative to Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

What drives 2020 Mahindra Alturas G4?

Alturas G4 runs on a 2.2 L 4-cylinder diesel engine and uses a Mercedes-Benz 7-speed automatic gearbox to transmit torque to the wheels. You get an option to buy Alturas G4 with 4×2 and 4×4 driveline. There are no step-up variants in terms of features but Alturas G4 4×4 variant offers more than its 4×2 variant. It means you have to buy the 4×4 variant to get other features.

Alturas G4 is longer than Fortuner and slightly shorter than Endeavour and the same goes for its wheelbase. Despite being that much longer, it has a good minimum turning radius of 5.5 m which is again smaller than both Fortuner and Endeavour.

Driver Seat slides back with door opening

The build quality of Alturas G4 is totally premium and you can feel it in every detail. A good amount of chrome is used to garnish the look of this 3 row SUV. The signature grille from Mahindra is entirely covered under the chrome. Chrome line runs around the windows, along with the doors, on the front bumper, and on the tailgate.

In terms of comfort and luxury, Mahindra has left no stone unturned.

Starting from the driver’s seat, the moment you open the door, the driver seat slides back slightly to easily let you inside. That is a very unique feature. The driver gets each control under his reach. The driver seat is 8-ways adjustable through electronic buttons. The steering wheel contains controls for almost everything, the driver needs from audio control to cruise control.

DIC and 20.32 cm Infotainment System

The Digital Instrument Cluster (DIC) is fully controllable from the steering mounted controls. You get 8.89 cm monochromatic DIC in 4×2 and a 17.78 cm colour DIC in the 4×4 variant. 20.32 cm infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and 6 speakers are common in both variants.

The interior of Alturas G4 is of premium grade. All interiors are dual-tone quilted with Nappa leathers. Interiors of 4×2 variant come with black & Grey colour scheme while 4×4 comes with tan & black colour scheme.
