2021 BMW X series currently has six models lined up for the adventure activities. Before talking about all the six models, let’s first know what’s the X means. X stands for crossovers in BMW X series cars. All the X series cars also use BMW’s xDrive. It has a total of 7 models but currently, six are available in Indian Market. BMW X series cars resemble the look of SUV’s but they are not exactly SUVs. The German automaker has made some changes or rather improvements in the classic SUV’s designs. They are calling them Sports Activity Vehicle or SAV. In these six cars, two of them are Coupe-based SUVs. BMW calls them Sports Activity Coupe.
BMW X Series All Models
Coming first in this series is the BMW X1. X1 comes in both diesel and petrol variants. It draws its power from a 2L TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine which delivers a good 192hp coupled with an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission. This combination of the turbo engine and Steptronic transmission gives a dynamic driving experience. X1 runs with a good mileage even when it encompasses a 2L sporty engine. It delivers a fuel economy of 14.82 km/l for a petrol engine and 19.62km/l for a diesel engine. The 5-seater SAV is available at an ex-showroom price of INR 37.2 Lakh.
In this lineup, the next entry is BMW X3. It is also a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). There is nothing much difference in power and torque than its smaller sibling X1. You can call it a bigger, wider, and taller version of X1. X3 focuses more on off-roading. It is also a four-wheel drive SAV and draws its power from the same 2L TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine which delivers the same amount of power and torque. But, of course, its bigger size and all-wheel-drive system reduced its fuel economy and top speed. On the diesel engine, it runs 3km less than X1 in 1 liter of diesel. Available in both diesel and petrol engine, the BMW X3 starts at an ex-showroom price of INR 56.5 Lakh.
BMW X3 is same in its engine and transmission configuration but its all wheel drive system and bigger size and better luxury inside makes it more desirable than any other SAV of this price range.
The next car on this list is the BMW X4. X4 is not an SUV rather it’s an SUV based on the coupe and BMW calls it Sports Activity Coupe. You get the design, look, and appearance of a coupe but you get performance mixed of coupe and sports utility vehicle. This Coupe from the German manufacturer produces a whopping power of 265hp and a torque of 620Nm. X3 coupe runs on 19-inch wheels. This size of wheels you will find in SUVs like Tata Safari, Toyota Fortuner, and MG Gloster.
A coupe with this size of wheels will definitely grab the attention of people. This Coupe does not look fast but it is. It can attain a top speed of 235km/h with an acceleration of 0-100km/h in 6 seconds. And this German car still delivers a fuel economy of 14.71km/l which is equal to most of the 5-seater SUVs available in the Indian market. The BMW X4 starts at an ex-showroom price of INR 62.4 Lakh.
BMW X5 is equipped with some of the most advanced driving dynamics of BMW. 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission system combined with 3.0L Twin Power Turbo engine provides an acceleration of 0-100kmph in 6.5s. With a max power of 265hp, the SAV can attain a top speed of 230 kmph. The adaptive 2-axis suspension of X5 keeps the vehicle at a constant height whatever the load is put on. It also offers to change the height as desired at the touch of a button. X5 also comes equipped with M sports brake to give an outstanding braking performance.
The Sports Activity Coupe X6 is a sporty coupe with 20-inch wheels with Xline and 21-inch with M Sports version. X6 is a higher version not only in sense of engine but better dynamics, safety, connectivity, and performance. The six-cylinder 340hp engine is sufficient enough to roll you through any terrain. The adaptive M suspension keeps the coupe stable through bumpy rides in the Himalayas and faster drives on expressways. It is equipped with driving dynamics such as
- M exhaust system,
- Adaptive M suspension,
- M carbon rear spoiler,
- Sports seats for driver and front passenger, and
- The intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
X6 not only cares for the driving experience but also has innovative elements to provide the passengers better comfort and luxury during the drives. You can bring this Sports Activity coupe to your garage at a starting ex-showroom price of INR 96.9 Lakh.
You like all the features and technology of X6 but don’t want to buy the coupe. You got another top-of-the-line X series that has all the capabilities of X6 but the body of the SUV. X7 is the SUV version of X6. X7 is very elegant in design yet powerful in its capabilities. X7 is powered by a 3.0 L twin Turbo power which delivers 265hp and can attain a top of 227kmph.
