The 2022 Ford Escape is a small SUV that sits in a sweet spot between the automaker’s smaller Ford Ecosport and larger Ford Edge and three-row Explorer. It competes in one of the most hotly contested segments around with rivals including the Honda CRV, Jeep Cherokee, Mazda CX-5, and Toyota RAV4.
The Escape was fully redesigned just a couple of years ago which explains the lack of changes or upgrades for the 2022 model year. The Escape does a lot of things right. Its cabin is comfortable and spacious and is available with lots of technology and advanced driver aids. Although its cargo area isn’t class-leading what is there, is right on the mark for what you expect from small SUVs?

2022 Ford Escape – Design
Escape was designed to be more in line with a lot of the European Fords that are sold outside the united states. The grille design on the Escape may remind you of the Ford Fusion. We have full LED reflector style headlights with LED turn signals along with LED fog lights.
With an overall length of 180.5-inches, the Escape is on the smaller side of the compact crossover segment in the US. For Ford that makes a lot of sense because they have a bunch of different crossovers to choose from. If you want something that’s a little bit smaller, a little bit easier to park that’s the Bronco sport. If you want something a little bit more generously sized on the inside that would be the Edge. And if you’d rather have something fully electric that would be the Mustang Mach-E.
In terms of its interior capacity, this is definitely smaller and easier to park than something like the Nissan Rogue or the Volkswagen Tiguan. The Tiguan is about five inches longer than the Escape because it does have an optional third row in the back.
The Escape’s exterior design is definitely more flowing and a little bit less controversial than some of the Japanese options.
In the back, we have partial LED tail lamp modules. The turn signals are still incandescent. We have dual exhaust tips at the bottom something that’s a little bit surprising. The parking sensors are integrated into the bottom part of the bumper. The rear bumper does stick out a reasonable amount from the hatch. So if you’re looking for something with a little bit of extra protection in those bumps, this is going to be a good option.
2022 Ford Escape Engine, transmission, and performance
2022 Ford Escape is available with four powertrain options 1.5L EcoBoost, 2.0L EcoBoost, 2.5L hybrid, and a 2.5L Plug-in Hybrid.
The 1.5L EcoBoost Ti-VCT GTDI I-3 engine churns out a max power of 181hp @ 6000rpm and a max torque of 155lb-ft @ 4000rpm. If you think this engine lacks power, there is another engine available with turbocharging and more power output. Those looking for more power can opt for the turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine makes 250 horsepower @ 5500rpm and 280 pound-feet of torque @ 3000rpm.
The Escape comes in two other powertrain configurations hybrid and plug-in hybrid. With the Hybrid, you get a gas engine with a non-plug-in electric motor. And with the Escape Plug-in Hybrid, you get the gas engine with a plug-in electric motor. The Hybrid power system produced a total of 200horsepower of max power and a max torque of 155 lb-ft while the plugin hybrid powertrain has a capacity to produce a max power of 221hp and a max torque of 155 lb-ft.

The 2022 Ford Escape is a small SUV available in four trim levels S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. S, SE, and SEL trims are driven by a turbocharged 1.5 liter, 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine that makes 181hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. That engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Escape S

You get the Co-Pilot360 assist plus package, 19-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, LED headlights and fog lights, roof rails, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, and auto-dimming, rear view mirror, power-adjustable passenger seat, and front parking sensors.
There are a few options for the Titanium including the Titanium Elite Package.
