2023 Maserati Grecale is the brand new Maserati SUV. It slots below the Levante and it’s going to start at just under $65,000. Going on sale this summer.Mistral, Ghibli, or Levante, naming their creations after winds is a Maserati tradition. And now it’s the turn of the Grecale, that strong, fresh breeze from the Mediterranean, to make its appearance in the Maserati family. There are three different gasoline engines available in the range but there’s also an electric model coming.
Maserati Grecale Trofeo
Now, of course, the Levante has been on sale for quite a time now and it’s a nice SUV albeit with quite a bit of Chrysler switchgear. Maserati has decided to put an SUV to slot below the Levante and that’s where the Grecale comes in. The new SUV looks a lot more promising than the Levante.
2023 Maserati Grecale Specs
With its 4.85 m, it is a beautiful baby. It is only 16cm shorter than the Levante, and 16cm longer than its cousin the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, from which it borrows the Giorgio platform.
About the styling, it’s very fresh. It’s kind of very modern. You’ll see right away on the front of the Grecale that it resembles the face of the MC20 supercar with its low-mounted grille and the high-mounted headlights but not only also the philosophy of applying pure sculpture to the upper part of the grille and then at the lower part the engineering area where it’s all about functionality, aerodynamic, and performance.
Now the grille and the headlights are not just purely graphical 2d elements. They are actually the 3d foundation of the construction of the crecada meaning that flowing out of the shape of the grill.
It is a crossover because that is what’s selling 114.2nch wheelbase. It’s 190.8inches in overall length. Now, this competes with vehicles like the Porsche Macan and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. So kind of thing in that class, it is slightly larger than some of its main rivals. 2023 Maserati Grecale got up to 21-inch wheels at least on the performance model called the Trophall.
Now the wheels of the Maserati Grecale also carry the message of the brand. And every spoke of the alloy wheels speaks it loudly. The shape of the wheels is inspired by the shape of the trident. You can see it in the spokes.
So in overall styling, it does have some alpha male cues. You do get a prominent vertical grille with a huge trident badge there in the middle. It’s got a long hood and a sloping roofline and the rear area with the sloping roofline definitely gives it a very sporty look for crossover.
2023 Maserati Grecale infotainment
On the inside, it screens galore screens after screens after screens. Even the clock, it’s still there but it’s a fully digital screen. There are two infotainment systems. With a 12.3-inch upper screen and an 8.8-inch lower screen in between those two, you can control everything in the cabin of the vehicle. It also has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It’s got leather, it’s got open pour woods and lots and lots of luxurious touches as you’d expect out of a luxury SUV. It got no gear shifter. There’s no lever. There’s no column shift. There doesn’t even appear to be a button system. It’s actually a push-button style layout but on one of the infotainment screens. So it’s kind of got like this little haptic feature going on here.
Now of course it is a Maserati so you do expect there to be a fair amount of performance and there is a fair amount of performance. So standard all-wheel-drive across the lineup which is nice and three engines are coming to the Grecale.
The five drive modes range from an off-road mode, a comfort mode, a GT mode, and a Corsa mode, all these modes are working together with the suspension, throttle response, steering, and sound.
2023 Maserati Grecal Models/Variants
Grecale GT
It is powered by a four-cylinder mild-hybrid engine which is capable of churning out 300HP of max power and 332 pound-feet of torque.
Grecale Modena
The 10% more powerful four-cylinder mild-hybrid engine powers the second variant of 2023 Maserati Grecale i.e., Modena. Grecale Modena is capable of delivering 330HP of max power.
Grecale Trofeo
The top end is where things get super exciting. So the performance model uses the Maserati performance name Trofeo. It’s a three-liter twin-turbo V6 and it’s the same engine that you’ll find in their brand new hypercar the MC20. So it makes 523 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque which is a lot of power in a small-ish SUV. So figure that’s going to compete with vehicles like the BMW X3M maybe some of the AMG models.
Now of course, in today’s modern era, it does compete I think with some luxury electric offerings like perhaps the Volvo C40 Recharge and even the Tesla Model Y and the Tesla Model Y performance. It’s gonna be a little quicker but 3.6 is still pretty crazy. The top speed on the Trofeo by the way 177 isn’t that insane.
Grecale Folgore
Now the electric model is called the Grecale Folgore which is Italian for lightning. It arrives in the fall of 2023 and it looks very similar to the gasoline models. Albeit with a few small styling changes and we do have some specs on that one. They say a 105-kilowatt hour battery pack 590 pound-feet of torque. It uses a modified version of the Giorgio platform. The same platform underpins the gas colony and the alpha male Stelvio. The pricing is a mystery on the electric one but we are expecting it to be somewhere between 70 and 80 thousand dollars.
Now, this vehicle can come equipped with an optional air suspension system with comfort support and off-road settings plus a Corsa for the Trofeo model. So it’s got a high-performance sport setting there as well.
2023 Maserati Grecale Price
The base Grecale GT starts at $64,995 which is a lot of money when you consider it. It does compete with vehicles like the Alfa Romeo Stelvio that’s going to come in a lot more affordable price bracket. but of course, Maserati is considered a more premium brand than Alfa Romeo.
Now the Modena limited edition is what’s going to be on sale first and that starts at $78,895.
No pricing on the top dog Grecale Trofeo yet but it’s going to start well into the $80,000 range. Competition like we talked about the Stelvio the Quadrifoglio for the Trofeo model, the X3 and the M Competition against the Trofeo that’s got 503 horsepower by the way the extreme competition and The Macan GTS with 434 horsepower are some of the direct rivals.
Now overall, we think this is a very cool-looking car. It looks like a fresh SUV from Maserati. Looks better than the Levante in our opinion.
